DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrival in Antananarivo

Arrival: Ivato International Airport (TNR)

Meet and greet upon arrival at Ivato International Airport by your English-speaking
guide. Private transfer to your hotel (15 km – approximately 30 minutes). Tour briefing and presentation of your journey. Time at leisure to relax after your international flight.

Day 2 – Antananarivo → Andasibe

Distance: 140 km
Driving Time: Approximately 4–5 hours

  • Depart Antananarivo and enjoy a scenic drive through Madagascar’s picturesque
    eastern highlands, passing rice paddies, traditional villages and lush landscapes.
  • Visit the famous Peyrieras Private Reserve, renowned for its impressive collection of

Day 5 – Antananarivo → Morondava (Domestic Flight) → Kirindy Forest

Distance: 60 km
Driving Time: Approximately 3 hours

  • Transfer to Ivato International Airport for your domestic flight to Morondava,
    gateway to Madagascar’s spectacular west coast.
  • Upon arrival, meet your driver-guide and travel through baobab-dotted landscapes
    to Kirindy Forest Reserve, one of the island’s most important dry deciduous forests.
  • Check in at your lodge and enjoy some time to relax before nightfall.
  • Before dinner, join an optional guided night walk to search for Madagascar’s
    fascinating nocturnal wildlife, including mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs, chameleons,
    owls and, with a bit of luck, the elusive Fossa, Madagascar’s largest carnivore.

Day 6 – Kirindy Forest → Bekopaka

Distance: 170km
Driving Time: Approximately 6–8 hours (including two ferry crossings)

Day 9 – Bekopaka → Morondava

Distance: 200 km
Driving Time: Approximately 8–10 hours (including ferry crossings)

  • After breakfast, depart Bekopaka and travel back through the spectacular landscapes of
    western Madagascar.
  • Cross the Manambolo and Tsiribihina Rivers by local ferry before continuing to
    Morondava.
  • Enjoy views of traditional villages, baobab forests and the vast savannahs that
    characterize the region.
  • Arrive in Morondava in the late afternoon.
  • End the day with an unforgettable sunset at the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs, one

Day 10 – Morondava → Morombe

Distance: 220km
Driving Time: Approximately 7–9 hours

    southwest coastline.

    authentic lifestyle of local communities
  • Admire the region’s remarkable baobab landscapes, where several endemic species
    can be seen in a variety of shapes, sizes and bark colours, ranging from smooth

Day 11 – Morombe → Andavadoaka

  • Along the way, visit the remarkable Dwarf Baobab Forest near Andavadoaka, where

  • Arrive in the charming seaside village of Andavadoaka, renowned for its turquoise

Day 12 – Andavadoaka → Ambatomilo

Day 13 – Discover Ambatomilo & Meet the Mikea People

Local Excursion: 40–60 km round trip
Driving Time: Approximately 1.5–2 hours

  • After breakfast, set off on a fascinating excursion to visit a traditional Mikea
    community, one of Madagascar’s most distinctive indigenous groups.
  • Meet local families and discover their ancestral way of life, traditions and deep
    connection with the surrounding spiny forest.
  • Learn how the Mikea have traditionally lived as hunter-gatherers, relying on the forest
    for their daily needs.
  • Discover their traditional diet, which may include edible wild leaves, forest tubers,
    wild honey, game, land snails, and other natural resources gathered from the forest.
    Your guide will explain how this knowledge has been passed down through generations
    and how some communities continue to preserve these practices, while others have
    adopted more modern lifestyles.

  • Enjoy a scenic drive through traditional Vezo fishing villages, coastal dunes, spiny
    forests and breathtaking landscapes overlooking the Mozambique Channel.
  • Arrive in Mangily, a charming seaside village renowned for its white sandy beaches
    and exceptional coral reef.
