Park and Beach of Anakao - 16 Days
Let's go to visit the Park and take a pleaseure on a Beach of Anakao - 16 Days
Heading south to visit the parks and relax on Anakao beach, famous for its fine white sand. Eleven days in the south are enough to discover the daily life of the Malagasy people. From Antananarivo to Tuléar, every 100 km towards the south, the landscapes, tribes, house structures, and dialects change. Each tribe showcases their talents to passersby along the RN7. This itinerary is almost complete if you are passionate about the life of the Malagasy people. The Zamilane team will introduce you to our know-how and way of life. We will visit traditional houses and explore their interiors to understand how they live, sleep, and cook!
Let’s go! Heading south.
Program to Discover the Ring-Tailed Lemur along RN7
16 Days/15 nights
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo
Welcome to Antananarivo, the administrative capital of the Malagasy people. Life in Madagascar is “MORA MORA” (meaning “slowly”), except in Tananarive, where life is fast-paced as everyone rushes to work. After hours of flight and waiting for luggage, you will be transferred to the hotel.
Overnight in Antananarivo.
Day 2: Antananarivo – Antsirabe
Antananarivo is the administrative capital, Toamasina is the economic capital due to its port handling imports and exports, and Antsirabe is known for its concentration of factories, such as breweries and COTONA.
We will stop in Ambatolampy to discover the local expertise in crafting aluminum utensils. They are the main suppliers of aluminum products in Madagascar. Between Ambatolampy and Antsirabe, you’ll see vast plains of rice fields, carrots, and other vegetables.
Dinner and overnight in Antsirabe.
Day 3: Antsirabe – Ranomafana
After breakfast, we head towards Ranomafana, located 260 km southeast of Antsirabe. Although our final destination is Ranomafana, many surprises await you along the way. 20 km from the city of Antsirabe, we will stop to visit a traditional Malagasy house. The Malagasy don’t build skyscrapers, but they are happy to have their own homes, usually consisting of two rooms: a bedroom and a kitchen. All houses are oriented westward to benefit from the sunlight when it sets in the afternoon. This orientation also prevents water from entering the house due to the southeast trade winds.
Lunch in Ambositra.
Before continuing our journey, we’ll visit artisans to discover their wood-carving talents.
Dinner and overnight in Ranomafana.
Day 4: Ranomafana – Ambalavao
Ranomafana is an ecotourism village located in the province of Fianarantsoa, 60 km from Fianarantsoa city, on the way to Mananjary or Manakara. This village is very lively due to the presence of the national park and its waterfalls, which attract many tourists each year.
After breakfast, we will depart to explore the national park. The Ranomafana National Park is one of Madagascar’s most famous and important protected areas, after Isalo and Andasibe.
Renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, the park is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic to Madagascar, such as the golden bamboo lemur and Milne-Edwards’ sifaka, as well as chameleons and many bird species.
Ranomafana National Park is a must-see destination for nature lovers and those wanting to explore Madagascar’s unique ecosystems.
After the park visit, we’ll continue on National Road No. 7. Lunch in Fianarantsoa.
In the afternoon, visit the city of Fianarantsoa, which has a structure similar to Antananarivo.
Dinner and overnight in Ambalavao.
Day 5: Ambalavao – Isalo Park
The village of Ambalavao is renowned for its authentic Malagasy cultural traditions. The region’s inhabitants are known for their artisanal skills, particularly in producing Antaimoro paper, made from the bark of a tree called Avaho, used to create handicrafts such as cards and lamps.
The village is also famous for its bustling markets where you can buy local products, crafts, spices, and other goods. The Wednesday market is particularly special and attracts vendors from the surrounding areas; it’s also the zebu market.
13 km from Ambalavao is a small reserve called Anja, managed by the local community. It is well-visited thanks to the presence of ring-tailed lemurs.
After this visit, we will continue south-west, passing through Ihosy, the capital of the Bara people. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the small village of Ranohira.
Dinner and overnight in Ranohira.
Day 6: Isalo Park
Isalo Park is the most visited park in Madagascar, known for its unique biodiversity and features. Although the flora and fauna of Isalo are not as rich as other regions, the park is still home to a variety of unique species, including lemurs (such as the Verreaux’s sifaka), birds, chameleons, and reptiles. Succulent plants are also characteristic of the region.
Visitors can enjoy swimming in a natural pool and admiring panoramic views during the tour.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 7: Isalo Park – Mangily (Ifaty)
Early departure towards the capital of the Vezo people, or “people of the sea.” Tuléar is 250 km south of Isalo Park, passing through a famous sapphire village. If time allows, we will stop to observe how locals extract red soil in search of sapphires. After a few kilometers, we’ll see our first baobabs lining the road.
Lunch in Tuléar, then continue north to Mangily. Before heading to the hotel, we’ll visit the Reniala baobab reserve, where you’ll discover unique baobabs with various shapes, along with other xerophytic plants native to western Madagascar.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 8: Mangily – Sea Excursion
This day is dedicated to discovering the marine wildlife of Madagascar’s west coast. The excursion is done by sailing pirogue. If you visit during whale season, we also offer a whale-watching safari by pirogue.
Overnight at Bella Donna Hotel.
Day 9: Transfer to Anakao
Anakao is located south of Mangily, meaning we need to return to Tuléar to take a boat to this beautiful village. The transfer takes about an hour.
In the afternoon, relax on the fine white sand while admiring the sunset.
Overnight at Lalandaka Hotel.
Day 10: Anakao – Excursion to Nosy Ve
Nosy Ve is a small isolated island 3 km off the mainland, with white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush tropical vegetation. It offers an ideal setting for relaxation, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
The island is renowned for its snorkeling and diving opportunities, rich in marine biodiversity. The surrounding waters are teeming with marine life, including corals, colorful tropical fish, and other fascinating sea creatures. It’s also a prime bird-watching site, as many seabird species nest here.
Overnight at Lalandaka Hotel.
Day 11: Anakao – Tuléar – Ranohira
Normally, the return would be by plane, but I am not suggesting it this time due to high costs and recent cancellations. Instead, we’ll take the road RN7. After crossing Anakao and Tuléar, you will board your car to continue on National Road 7. Sometimes the return journey landscapes are different from those on the way, so stay attentive.
Overnight at H1 Hotel.
Day 12: Ranohira – Fianarantsoa
After breakfast, we will continue towards Fianarantsoa. You will stay in a slightly unusual hotel: Lac Hotel Sahambavy. I’ve reserved for you a bungalow on stilts where you’ll stay for two nights.
Overnight at Lac Hotel.
Day 13: Lac Hotel
In the morning, we will visit Madagascar’s only tea plantation, which supplies tea for the entire country and exports it abroad. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy at your leisure.
Overnight at Lac Hotel.
Day 14: Lac Hotel – Antsirabe
Departure towards Antsirabe, where you can continue to enjoy the green beauty of the highland landscape.
Overnight at H1 Hotel in Antsirabe.
Day 15: Antsirabe – Antananarivo
You leave Antsirabe in the morning to arrive in Antananarivo by noon. Next, we will take you to the Queen’s Palace, a place rich in the history of the Malagasy kingdom.
Overnight at Chat’o Hotel.
Day 16: Antananarivo Shopping
Visit the artisanal market and transfer to Ivato airport.
